Yesterday I set aside some time to work on some drawings. I’d had these images floating around in my head. More than images, they were ideas, the essences of the images. (Well, it makes perfect sense to my brain, anyway.) I was excited to finally be able to let these idea-images out onto paper. Oh, how I wish I could post a picture of what I’m working on right now. But that won’t be possible. Because not showing you what I’m doing is the whole point of my current experiment. I asked myself what I’d paint if nobody had to see it. I’ve asked clients this question before, [...] … is one of the hardest things to do. OK, scratch that. Doing things imperfectly without beating yourself up for it is one of the hardest things to do. I haven’t done any serious oil painting in about a year. And yet, when I sit down to paint something, I immediately want a masterpiece. [...] When I’m working on a project, I always take it as a good sign if I forget to feed myself. If I’ve lost track of time so much that the only reminder of time’s passing is my grumbling stomach, I know I’m going in the right direction.
